This was Nobiru Station.

On March the 11th 2011, the tsunami that devastated the Tohoku region of Japan reached 3.7m when it hit this station. The railway staff, and a handful of passengers that had arrived on a train just moments before, managed to escape up the roof.

The destruction all around was simply unbelievable.

Over a decade on, the remains of the platforms have been preserved and the station building now houses a museum which details the effect of the disaster on the local area.

It was certainly a very sobering place to visit.
